## How this list is ordered

Schools first had to sit at or above the 60th percentile on Azimuth's mobility pillar; those that qualified are ordered by the school's median earnings of all students ten years after entry, highest first, as set out on [Azimuth's methodology page](/methodology/#ranked-lists). The figures are medians for all federally aided students at each institution, measured ten years after entry, among those working and not enrolled. The metric does not adjust for graduate school enrollment, cost, or who enrolls, and it is not a measure of teaching quality. The gap between Rice University and The University of Texas at Austin is $14,597, and the spread from the top of the list to the bottom is $50,794.

## Job market context in Texas

Engineering graduates in Texas enter a labor market that links to occupations such as Civil Engineers, Industrial Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers. The median annual wage across those occupations is $116,398, though a quarter of workers in those occupations earn less than $90,958. Projections for 2024 to 2034 put employment in those occupations about 19.7% higher, with about 317 openings a year for every hundred graduates, more projected openings than graduates. Wages and top occupations exclude management occupations; openings include them. The ranking above uses graduate earnings data, which reflect the outcomes of specific cohorts of students, while these market figures describe the broader occupations the field connects to.
