## Azimuth’s composite rank: 32nd percentile nationally.

### Who it’s a good fit for

Tulane University of Louisiana is a private nonprofit university in New Orleans, where the degree mix is led by Business and Social Sciences. Access is the strongest pillar, at above average, while affordability is below the levels seen at many peers.

Graduates earn less than the model predicts for students like them. The model attributes more of that gap to a remainder it does not explain, which subtracts from earnings, than to the factors it measures, which add to them.

The typical graduate earns above the median at comparable schools, so the raw and adjusted results pull in opposite directions. The lowest income band pays well below the published cost, while the highest band pays closer to it.

Pell students complete at a rate well below the entering cohort as a whole, and mobility is modestly below average. The admission rate is well below the median for comparable schools, and the largest programs are not the best-paid ones.

Most graduates are estimated to go into work rather than further study, so the four-year earnings figure is measured while most of them are already in the labor force.

## Tulane rankings: how Azimuth assesses value[\[5\]](#hub-data-note-rankings)

Tulane University of Louisiana is a private nonprofit university in New Orleans, Louisiana, enrolling 7,767 undergraduates. Tulane University of Louisiana sits in the lower third of the Azimuth composite ranking among nonprofit four-year institutions (32nd percentile).

The university accepts 14.0% of applicants, against a median of 71.2% for comparable institutions (same type and size). First-year retention is 92.5%, against a peer median of 83.4%.

The [six-year graduation rate](/analysis/what-the-graduation-rate-doesnt-count/) for the first-time full-time cohort is 86.1%, against a peer median of 68.8% for comparable institutions. An estimated 7.7% of entrants arrive as transfers or part-time students, so the completion figure captures most of the student body but not all of it.

The four pillars sit far apart. Access is the strongest and affordability is the weakest, with return close behind and mobility in the lower third.

That wide spread means the overall standing of the university depends on which dimension a reader weighs most.

Access is the strongest part of Tulane University of Louisiana’s Azimuth profile, while affordability is the clearest constraint. Azimuth places access in the 65th percentile and return in the 63rd percentile among nonprofit four-year institutions.

Mobility is in the 34th percentile, and affordability, the weakest pillar, is in the 7th percentile. The profile pairs comparatively stronger access and return measures with a much weaker affordability measure.

Enrolled students who submitted SAT scores posted a middle 50% range from 1,400 to 1,520. The comparable ACT range for enrolled students who submitted was 31 to 34.

9.8% of undergraduates hold Pell Grants. Azimuth ranks Tulane University of Louisiana #518 for access among nonprofit four-year institutions.

Pell recipients complete at 51.5% within six years, a rate that falls 34.6 percentage points below the figure for the entering cohort as a whole (86.1%). For mobility, Azimuth ranks the university #968 among nonprofit four-year institutions. Graduates earn about $30,917 less than the model expects for similar students.
